Overview

Index Translation allows you to modify the text being indexed that searches are performed against. This can be useful for adding synonyms or alternate terms to products. It can help users find products if they use these different search terms.

Index Translations are maintained through the 'Index Translation' tab in the Lucene Settings maintenance page.

Enter 'Index terms' and their 'Translated terms'.

If the Index Term is found in the text being indexed, the Translated Term is appended to the text being indexed.

For example, having an Index Term of 'bunny' and a Translated Term of 'rabbit' will cause a search of 'bunny' or 'rabbit' to find a product that has indexed text that contains 'bunny'.

Index Translations do not take effect until the search database has been re-indexed.
