Section Menu Editor (DRAFT)

Overview

What is a section menu?  Explanation of the difference between this and a nav menu.

Create a New Menu 

1. Navigation → Section Menu Editor.
2. Create New Menu
3. Assign a description
4. Save.
5. Options → Associated Roles
6. This displays all the top level menus and the Roles that are linked to them. 
7. By default, new section menus are linked to ALL menu codes. You can toggle off the ones you don't want right here.
8. Add Item to Menu → select the type of menu item you wish to add (page, link, product, or category)
9. The dropdown list will change depending on the menu type you choose - you can lookup products/ categories, existing pages, or input a URL for a link. 
10. Valid URLs must start with http:// or https:// and javascript code must start with javascript:
11. Additional options for Pages: 
    • Include in Site Map
    • Open in New Window (this option is also available for Links)
    • Hidden
12. Save. 

Repeat the above steps to build out your section menu. You can drag and drop the menu items to rearrange them. 

Edit role associations by menu item

By default, each item you add to a section menu will inherit the role permissions of the parent. However, you can restrict this access further if reqqujired. 

Select the section menu you wish to edit. 

For the menu item you wish to edit, go to Options → Associated Roles. 

You'll see all the menus and their roles, each wioth a toggle. It's here that you can toggle off the ones you don't want to apply to this menu item. 

Save.

Displaying a section menu on the web

Once you've created or edited your section menu, you'll probably want to display it on your site. 

To do this, you'll need a Section Menu widget. 

Navigate to Content → Page Templates and select the required template (for example, the Theme Layout for the footer, or another page template to display in content area).

Select the section menu from the dropdown in the widget edit window. 

Custom Pages - adding a page to a menu

1. Content → Page Templates → Custom Pages
2. Edit the page you require. 
3. Options → Page Properties 
4. Add to a Menu
5. Choose a type - Section menu or Navigation menu 
6. (something here about the available nav menu items?) 
7. Hidden or not
8. Click Add Menu
9. Save

tip - adding a custom page to a menu may require a cache refresh before you see it on the web. Login/logout.
